Laudetur Jesus Christus! Gelobt sei Jesus Christus! Sia lodato Gesù Cristo! Praised be Jesus Christ!
I welcome to Old St. Mary’s today all those here to celebrate the German Day events this past weekend. Today coincides with the Feast of St. Boniface, the Apostle of Germany, so this year’s events are particular special. Welcome to Old St. Mary’s!
These past few weeks have been particularly busy and very feast filled. From Pentecost, to Corpus Christi, to the Feast of St. Philip Neri. At Sacred Heart we celebrated the ordination of Fr. Alex McCullough and welcomed the Archbishop for the Sacrament of Confirmation. I thank everyone who assisted or helped in any way to make these days as special and as smooth as possible. Aside from the externals that everyone sees at these celebrations, there is always a lot of background work and preparation. Please say a prayer of gratitude for those who help us give as much glory and honor to God as possible. We are always looking for a few good volunteers as well!
As we enter into the summer months, things begin to slow down in the parish. There are a few events to keep in mind throughout the summer. The Feast of St. John the Baptist on June 24 is always an important Feast for us here at Old St. Mary’s. We will have a Sung Mass that evening at 7:00 p.m. followed by a social. A special fire will be available for the burning of any used and tattered religious articles.
Bible Camp will be held from July 11-15. This year’s theme is ‘When God calls…’ This provides a chance for our young children to continue to learn about the Faith. We will be in need of some assistance during Bible Camp, so please keep an eye on the bulletin.
Our Annual Parish Picnic will be held on July 24. We will hold the picnic at the Cincinnati Donau-schwaben Society grounds again this year. We will invite Sacred Heart to be a part of our picnic this year and have a combined parish picnic.
These are a few of the things that will come up this summer. Please keep in mind Adoration and our various opportunities to participate. There is a children’s play group that meets on Tuesday mornings that gives a good opportunity to introduce children to Adoration, while also giving parents a few quiet moments of prayer. There is also our Tuesday evening Holy Hour, from 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The Sacrament of Penance is available during this time.
Each of these are good opportunities to keep your spiritual lives in check during these summer months. Make sure if you go on vacation to plan ahead for Sunday/Daily Mass times, and to get your prayers in each day. Have a blessed week ahead!
