Today we transition to the Traditional Latin Mass at Old St. Mary’s 9:30 a.m. Mass. I thank everyone for their patience and understanding. If any questions arise in the coming week regarding practice or why something may be the way that it is, please do not hesitate to ask! Never assume you are the only one who doesn’t understand something. We are all very good at making it seem like we know everything and hiding our confusion and questions. I can remember in classes in high school or college always being a little relieved when someone else asked the teacher or professor for clarification on a point that everyone was nervous to ask. This is usually the result of our pride and not wanting to be humble. So please ask!
Today also begins the Season of Advent. Please be sure to check the rest of the bulletin for our events throughout the Advent Season. If you brought an Advent Wreath to Mass today to be blessed, please bring it to the Communion Rail immediately following Mass.
A note of clarification, December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, falls on a Sunday this year. On the Traditional Calendar, the Immaculate Conception is of higher rank than the Sunday of Advent. It will thus be celebrated next Sunday in place of the Second Sunday of Advent. On the Revised Calendar, the Immaculate Conception does not outrank the Sunday of Advent and is thus transferred to Monday. Masses in the Ordinary Form next Sunday will, therefore, be that of the Second Sunday of Advent. The Immaculate Conception will be transferred to Monday, December 9. If you do not hear the Mass of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday, I strongly encourage you to attend Mass on Monday, December 9. Our Lady, under this title, is the patroness of the United States. Our country can certainly use our prayers, so please try to hear the Mass of the Immaculate Conception either on Sunday or Monday!
Following Mass next Sunday, after the 9:30 a.m. Mass at Old St. Mary’ and the 11:00 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart, we will have our parish consecration to the Blessed Virgin. I will be the celebrant at both, and the schedule is tight, so I apologize in advance if the 11:00 a.m. Mass begins a little late as I move from Old St. Mary’s to Sacred Heart. During this consecration, I will also place an updated list of each of our parish families in the lockets around the statues of Our Lady. Praying that she intercede with the Lord for graces for our parishes and all of our families. Just as God sought to give His Son to the world through Our Lady, He seeks to distribute graces to the world through her. Just as at the Wedding Feast of Cana, Our Lord finds it difficult to deny a request of Our Lady!
