As we begin this month of July, the Church suggests that we focus on the Precious Blood of the Lord. As I have said previously, each day of the week and each month is dedicated to some aspect of the Faith. So, as we begin this month of the Precious Blood, may we consider the gratitude we should have towards Our Lord for the sacrifice He made for our salvation. The Fathers of the Church say that the Sacraments have come forth from the Blood of the Lord. The Lord loved us enough that he didn’t even hold back a single drop of His blood so that He could win our salvation. May we show our gratitude this month, perhaps by reciting the Litany of the Precious Blood from time to time.
A few other practical notes. Parish registrations are now open. You can register by visiting either register.oldstmarys.org or register.sacredheartcincinnati.com. We are asking that everyone register so that we can have a more accurate census of who is in the parish. So this is for those who have been here and those who are new and have been waiting. Also, If you are over 18, you need to register separately from your parents. Our entire database will be updated.
I wish to make sure this is clear: merely filling out a registration form doesn’t make you a parish member. Everyone is technically a member of the parish in which they live. However, in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, you can transfer that membership to another parish if your pastor is informed and another pastor receives you. This is not something that should be taken lightly because membership in a parish gives you your proper pastor (which is essential for marriage-related matters, letters of good standing, other Sacramental issues, etc.), obligates you to see the needs of the parish, and is the place where you should primarily attend Mass. It is a place where you should have a vested interest.
People can attend Mass anywhere. Some attend Mass here through the week because they work nearby. People, of course, find a Church to attend Mass when they travel. But your parish is your home, for which it has certain obligations towards you, and you have certain obligations towards it. Only together can we do something great for God.
Two last points. Please note that the parish picnic will be held on September 7 this year and not in July. Also, this is the time of year when the Oratory considers accepting new members. So please be sure to keep those discerning in your prayers. Please also continue to pray for the brothers and Dominic Yasenchack as they continue their seminary formation.
Have a blessed month ahead!
