Portiuncula Indulgence

Today, August 2, if you visit any parish church, you have the opportunity to gain a plenary indulgence. You do so, in addition to visiting the parish church, by also reciting the Creed and Our Father during your visit. You must also receive Holy Communion within 7 days for the intention of the indulgence, receive Sacramental Confession within 20 days, be detached from all sin, and pray for the Holy Father’s intentions.

The image of the Church above is the little chapel that St. Francis of Assisi rebuilt, and he called it the Portiuncula, or little portion. The indulgence was originally only granted to this little chapel, but since the vast majority of Catholics will never have the opportunity to visit, the Church has extended it to all parish churches.
