Father’s Column August 2024

The month of August is dedicated specifically to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. May we make special intercession to the Immaculate Heart this month and place our trust that in the end, Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart will triumph!

I thank everyone who had a special role in making our parish picnic a grand success once again. Everyone had a good time, and it was good for all the various Masses to have a chance to meet others. If you couldn’t make it this year, be sure to make it next year!

A few things to keep in mind for August. Be sure to join us for the Our Lady of the Snows Ice Skating evening on August 5. Also, remember that August 15, the Feast of the Assumption, is a Holy Day of Obligation. Check the rest of this newsletter for more information!

This is just a reminder to please be respectful when outside at socials on Sundays. If you are near the windows of the Church, noise easily carries inside while people are praying. This is also distracting to the celebrant of the Mass. Please be considerate and keep your voices down, or go out back and enjoy the garden.

Fr. Michael has arrived and is adjusting to life in Cincinnati and at the Oratory. Please be sure to give him a big welcome. He will go through his canonical novitiate this upcoming year, formally beginning on September 3. This is an important year, and the Church places many rules and expectations for it as a means to introduce a person to the charism of a particular Religious Order or Congregation. So, while Fr. Michael is a priest and you will see him offering Mass and helping with confessions, we otherwise must abide by the expectations of the novitiate. As such, he does not have a formal assignment in the parish and is only able to do the pastoral care that I request of him. So please respect this and Fr. Michael’s discernment during this time.

Fr. Michael will be clothed in the habit on Tuesday, September 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Old St. Mary. Everyone is welcome, and a social will follow. This social will also be a good time to say goodbye to Br. Stephen and Br. Benjamin, as they leave for Toronto on September 4 to begin their seminary studies. Be sure to keep them all in your prayers.

Have a blessed month ahead!
