Laudetur Jesus Christus! Gelobt sei Jesus Christus! Sia lodato Gesù Cristo! Praised be Jesus Christ!
There is a lot going on this month, so much so that everything could not fit on the following pages of the Bulletin. Two things that could not fit, so please keep in mind:
First of all, this Friday is First Friday! Sung Mass (Traditional) will be at 7:00 p.m. with the all night Vigil following. Please sign up for an hour of Adoration if you are able, even if it is just for this coming Friday! The Sacred Heart bestows many Graces on those who receive Holy Communion and make reparation on the First Friday of each month. One of these Blessings is to establish peace in our homes. How our homes need peace, so please join us for Mass and Adoration!
Secondly is a reminder that during October we keep the October Count. Please be sure to attend Mass at Old St. Mary’s each Sunday, bringing a neighbor or friend with you. You are each our greatest ambassadors to draw others to our Parish, so please be good ambassadors!
I also want to remind everyone to please keep in mind that October 26-29 is our Annual Forty Hours. Sign ups are near the Church doors today. Solemn Mass to open Forty Hours will be on Thursday, October 26, at 7:00 p.m. We need two Adorers for each hour, so please sign up for an hour or two. This Devotion began in Rome, and was heavily promoted by St. Philip Neri and the Oratorians. The goal in Rome was to have one Church offering Forty Hours at all times, so that at any time a person could find a Church in the city with Exposition. This is a great grace to a Parish. It gives us an opportunity to adore our Lord and present our needs to Him while he waits for us in the throne of the Altar. It also provides some moments of quiet and silence for us in such a loud world. The closing for Forty Hours will be on Sunday, October 29, with Vespers at 3:30 p.m. and the closing ceremonies at 4:15 p.m. Please mark your calendars now!
Please also try to make it to the Annual Banquet for the Oratory on Monday, October 30. This is our only major fund raiser. Next Sunday will be a collection for our Seminarians, your future Priests. One Seminarian costs $30,000, but this is worth the cost when we consider the lifetime of service they will offer to God and to His people. So please be generous for this collection and come to the Banquet if possible!
We will begin the month of November with the celebration of All Saints Day November 1st and the commemoration of All Souls Day November 2nd. A few of us will depart for our Parish Pilgrimage to Italy to walk in the footsteps of St. Philip Neri. Please remember the Parish in your prayers. All of these things are offered for the benefit and the salvation of souls. So please participate and take advantage of as much as you can! Have a blessed week ahead!
“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.” – St. Thérèse of Lisieux
