As we continue to proceed through our Lenten Season, we hear in the Gospel today one of the more astonishing events in the life of Christ, the Transfiguration. It seems odd that during Lent, a Season of Penance, we would have this Gospel. However, it is entirely important for us to reflect on this because fasting and penance are not natural to the human person. We were not created to fast. We fast because we have sinned. Today, Our Lord is giving us a glimpse of the glory that awaits not just Him, but us as well. He is filling us with great hope during this valley of tears. If we live life well, if we fast and do penance, and if we grow in holiness and virtue then we, too, can experience the Transfiguration. Christ is showing us that if we are to attain the Transfiguration, the Resurrection, Heavenly Beatitude, that it is only through the cross. May we always maintain this hope as we fast and do penance, realizing that the higher goal of Eternal Life is always before us.
As an update regarding parking in the courtyard. Recognizing the difficulty it can sometimes be to find parking spots, I offer this solution. Signs have been ordered and will soon be installed in the lot on the corner of Main and 13th Streets. These signs will reserve spots for the staff in the mornings, and then the adorers and Mass goers in the evening. Six spots will be reserved for this purpose. This will help with parking in the courtyard and still provide parking for those who want to pray. Once the signs are installed, parking in the courtyard will be prohibited. I again apologize for any inconvenience, but it became necessary after Br. Brent’s car was hit and upon reflection recognizing the importance for the clergy to be able to freely get in and out of their parking in case of an emergency.
