I would like to first of all personally thank everyone who was involved in helping to make our third annual fish fry a grand success. I particularly thank Mrs. Amy Schneider for all of the work that she put into planning and organizing this fundraiser.
The amount of work that goes into this is substantial, and it is a great testament at how everyone comes together for the good of the parish. This event is also a good way for Old St. Mary’s to continue to engage the neighborhood. St. Teresa of Avila once said:
Christ has no body but yours, no hands, no feet on earth but yours, yours are the eyes with which he looks Compassion on this world, yours are the feet with which he walks to do good, yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, Yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now but yours, no hands, no feet on earth but yours, yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
Unless we are willing to do the hard work. Unless we are willing to actually be Christ, then Christ has no one else to continue His mission. He has no hands or feet other than ours.
Lent is a prime opportunity for us to reflect upon this quote from St. Teresa of Avila. Whether we are trying to work for the Church to help raise funds, to engage the neighborhood as witnesses of Christ, or whether we challenge our very hearts and souls. In all that we do, we must always remember that we represent Christ. A truly humbling thought is that others will either be attracted to Christ because of us, or completely repulsed. Which it is, is up to us.
