This Saturday the parish will celebrate another important milestone; Br. Adrian will be ordained to the priesthood. Old St. Mary’s has been a place of promoting vocations for generations, with several vocations to the priesthood and the religious life having come from Old St. Mary’s in the recent past and also throughout its entire history.
Br. Adrian began attending Old St. Mary’s in 2002. He found in Old St. Mary’s a place of prayer but also a place defined by its culture. Being one of the founding members of the Oratory, he knew that the mission that Old St. Mary’s endeavors to fulfill is an important one; not just in Over-the-Rhine but throughout Cincinnati. In helping to found the Oratory, and now with his ordination, Br. Adrian is helping to secure the future of Old St. Mary’s for generations to come.
I encourage everyone to attend the Ordination at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains at 11 o’clock in the morning if possible. The Cathedral usually fills up quickly for priesthood ordinations and parking can at times be difficult. However, if you have never seen a priesthood ordination, this is a perfect opportunity. The Archbishop will ordain 3 new priests, each in their twenties. The Lord has truly blessed the Archdiocese, but may we continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and to the religious life. May we also pray for the continued success of the Oratory.
Please note the adjusted Mass schedule for next weekend. Thank you in advance for your flexibility as the parish comes together to celebrate this ordination. There will be a reception following the First Mass. We will be making use of the court yard, the garden above the car port, and also the parking lot and garden in the back. We may also have a lot of guests with us, please be as welcoming and as helpful as possible in directing them.
Br. Adrian will be offering his first priestly blessing in the courtyard following Mass. For those who have never received a blessing from a newly ordained priest, this blessing carries with it special indulgences and graces. A newly ordained priest is able to impart this special blessing for one year following his ordination. So I encourage everyone to also receive this blessing.
