Laudetur Jesus Christus! Gelobt sei Jesus Christus! Sia lodato Gesù Cristo! Praised be Jesus Christ!

First of all, Happy Mother’s day to all of our mothers today. May the Lord continue to bless you, and may our Blessed Virgin Mary guide each of you in your motherly role!

Next Friday, May 26, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Philip for the first time as the Cincinnati Oratory. We will have a Solemn Traditional Mass at 7:00 p.m. here at Old St. Mary’s to celebrate the Feast Day. I would encourage everyone to attend the Mass, if possible. If you can not make the evening Mass, try to make one of our earlier Masses. Please be sure to thank St. Philip for his intercession in helping to establish an Oratory here in Cincinnati.

The Novena of St. Philip Neri begins this coming  Wednesday. Please find Novena sheets near the doors. Please join us in reciting this Novena. We will also recite the Novena after all Masses, from May 17-25. Please remember the intentions of the Oratory in your prayers!

Today we celebrate May Crowning and Mother’s Day. One of St. Philip Neri’s favorite phases to utter throughout the course of the day was the phrase ‘Virgin and Mother, Mother and Virgin.’ This phrase is contained on the ceiling of Old St. Mary’s, proof of St. Philip having a hand in the building of Old St. Mary’s 175 years ago, laying the groundwork for our beautiful Parish and the foundation of the Oratory.

While we all rightly esteem our own mothers to be the best of all mothers, we all would agree that Mary is preeminent among them. As the Mother of God, the new Eve, and the Mediatrix of All Grace, Mary has become the new Mother of all humanity, beckoning her children to return to our Father’s house, receive the graces that He desires to give to us, and lead us into His everlasting kingdom. May we each entrust ourselves to our august Mother today.

Please pray with us today this prayer of St. Philip Neri to Mary, our Mother, imploring the intercession of our great Mother of God. Have a blessed week ahead!

“Mary, I love you. Mary, make me live in God, with God, and for God. Draw me after you, holy mother. O Mary, may your children persevere in loving you.

Mary, Mother of God and mother of mercy, pray for me and for the departed. Mary, holy Mother of God, be our helper. In every difficulty and distress, come to our aid, O Mary.

O Queen of Heaven, lead us to eternal life with God.Mother of God, remember me, and help me always to remember you. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me. Amen.” – St. Philip Neri
