Laudetur Jesus Christus! Gelobt sei Jesus Christus!
Sia lodato Gesù Cristo! Praised be Jesus Christ!
Just a reminder that this upcoming week and next Sunday we will have the two Pontifical Masses at Old St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart. As I mentioned last week, it is possible that we will have guests visiting our parishes for these Masses. If someone looks confused or needs help, please be sure to offer assistance. Parking may be tight, so please be conscious of that in advance. These are not frequent events, particularly the Pontifical Requiem Mass on Saturday, so please be sure to attend if you are able. If you do not know what a Requiem Mass is, please read the Catechesis Section this week.
We are also looking for someone who can assist Fr. Valentine with Friday Mass at Old St. Mary’s. Father gave up his drivers license a few months ago and is in need of a ride to and from St. Clement’s Friary on Friday mornings. We also need a server to assist him at the Altar. Both Bro. Brent and Bro. Henry returns to school the week of August 26, so we need someone starting August 31. If a few people are willing to transport him, there can be a schedule to give him a ride. Fr. Valentine has been very generous with Old St. Mary’s and the Traditional Community since he returned to Cincinnati. I think we owe it to him to help him out to ensure he can still get to Mass on Friday’s. Please contact either parish office and leave a message if you can assist.
We are also in need of adorers at Old St. Mary’s. As I have so often strived for, we need minimally two adorers per hour. This is not only a requirement of the Church, but also must be for safety reasons, or in case of a medical emergency. Two is only the minimum; we are limited to a maximum of nine-hundred only because of fire code. Our Lord pleaded with the Apostles for them to spend just one hour in prayer with Him on the night He was betrayed. He also asks us to do the same, because he continues to be betrayed by sin. Of whom, we are the first betrayers. So please consider signing up for an hour if you haven’t already. We used to be able to offer many more hours of adoration, but due to a lack of interest, we have had to reduce the hours we offer. Help us maintain what we currently have.
I certainly know and appreciate that we each have many responsibilities that keep us busy. St. Francis de Sales knew this too when he said that when we don’t have thirty minutes for prayer, that means we need to do an hour that day. We can always make excuses and create reasons for why we stay away from God. At some point in our life, we have to make a change. Because we either give ourselves entirely in this life, or we will pay the consequences of that decision in the life to come. If you have just an hour to spare a week, consider on the following hours. If you can take one, please contact the parish office to be placed on the list. Have a blessed week ahead!
