Laudetur Jesus Christus! Gelobt sei Jesus Christus!
Sia lodato Gesù Cristo! Praised be Jesus Christ!

A reminder that today is the parish picnic. It will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Kolping Grove. If you did not reserve a spot, you are still welcome. We ask that you bring some extra brats, mets, or hot dogs so that we make sure there is enough to go around. Please also bring a dish to share. I hope to see you there!

I am also happy to announce our plans to celebrate the canonization of Bl. John Henry Newman on Wednesday, October 13 by Pope Francis in Rome. We will kick off several days of celebrations starting on October 16 with the Annual Oratory Banquet at The Phoenix. This year, we are happy to welcome His Excellency, Bishop Athanasius Schneider as our guest and speaker. His Excellency will speak on how the Oratory is an aid to living the Faith in difficult times. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social. Dinner will follow at 6:45 p.m. The cost is $60 per person if you reserve by September 30. Table sponsorships are also available. Please visit http://banquet.cincinnatioratory.com/ for more information.

On Thursday, October 17, we will have a Solemn Pontifical Mass with Bishop Schneider to celebrate the newly canonized St. John Henry Newman. Mass will be at Old St. Mary’s and will begin at 6:00 p.m. The procession of the clergy, the Bishop’s entrance into the Church, and his vesting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is more than welcome and encouraged to attend the Mass for our future newest Oratorian saint.

On Friday, October 18, following all Masses between both Old St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart, there will be an opportunity to venerate a first-class relic of Newman with special devotions to the new saint.

Finally, on Saturday, October 19, we will cosponsor with the Holy Name Society of St. Antoninus the annual Men’s Eucharistic Procession through downtown. The procession will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Cathedral and will proceed to Old St. Mary’s. Once at Old St. Mary’s, a sermon on Newman and Christian Manhood will be delivered, followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. We will conclude with the Te Deum in celebration of the canonization.

I hope you are able to join us for one or all of these events. It will be a tiring few days, but a rewarding one to celebrate such an influential figure within the Church at large, and in particular within the Oratory world. Markdown these dates now, reminders will be given throughout the coming weeks and months.

Even though we may be in summer and the weather has been hot, please do not forget your spiritual life, especially while traveling or on vacation. It is important to ensure you make it to Sunday Mass, that you are praying, and that you do not forget God while you enjoy some well-deserved relaxation. God is ultimately the one who helped you have this time, so be sure to give Him thanks by fulfilling all of your duties towards him while away. I wish each of you a safe and blessed rest of the summer!
