Father’s Column – May 2025

Posted on May 3, 2025 View all news

We were obviously surprised and shocked by Pope Francis’s sudden passing on Easter Monday. May we continue to pray for the repose of his soul. This is our duty as Catholics and is also connected to the Corporal Works of Mercy. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord!

Our attention also now moves to praying for the Cardinals who will choose our next Pope. Be sure to pray for them and to offer up fasting and penances. There is a prayer you can use on the pages that follow in this newsletter. We will also pray daily during the Conclave the prayer to the Holy Spirit that He will lead the Cardinals to a man who will shepherd the whole Church and be an example after Our Lord’s Most Sacred Heart! Please join us in these prayers until the new Pope is selected.

This time of year, we have also celebrated many Sacraments. Congratulations to all those who received Sacraments at Easter and to all those who received First Communion. I also want to thank all those who helped to clean, polish, serve, sing, and set up various things during Passiontide and throughout Holy Week. Our Holy Week went very well this year and was prayerful. This is only a testament to everyone who works behind the scenes to ensure we are ready and everything is in place. Thank you!

At the end of the month, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Philip Neri. The Feast will begin with First Vespers of St. Philip Neri at 3:30 on May 25, and the solemn Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. on May 26. Please join us on this important Feast for the Oratorians as we celebrate our saintly founder. We will also celebrate Fr. Adrian’s tenth anniversary of ordination following Mass. Please join us.

Again, please be sure to pray for Pope Francis’s soul and for his successor, as he is already known in God’s mind. Join us in praying for the Cardinal electors that the next Pope will continue to lead the Church into greater holiness and lead us on the path of Heaven.
