On Pentecost Sunday, a Plenary Indulgence is granted to all those who publicly recite or chant the hymn Veni Creator. We will publicly chant or recite the Veni Creator following all Masses at Old St. Mary’s & Sacred Heart. This must be done under the usual conditions of Sacramental Confession within 20 days (before or after, one confession suffices for multiple Plenary Indulgences), the reception of Holy Communion (for each Plenary Indulgence), detachment from all sin (even Venial Sin), and prayers for the Holy Father’s intentions.
St. Philip Neri, the Founder of the Congregation of the Oratory, is pictured to the right. He was devoted to the Holy Spirit. On the Vigil of Pentecost in 1544, seven years before he was ordained a priest, he received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit within his heart as he prayed in the Catacombs of St. Sebastian, just outside the city of Rome. St. Philip was ahead of his time in his devotion.
